Awards: Include any academic or research awards you have received.

Procedural skills: Get sign-offs for procedures you are competent in from consultants using forms from the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP). Maintain an electronic logbook listing all surgical procedures you have performed using the ISCP logbook system.

Training/CPD: List all relevant courses, workshops and training. Bring certificates as proof. Even basic courses count!

Management and leadership: Any evidence of these skills help, such as holding administrative roles, taking management courses.

Research: Publishing research or presenting at conferences show your commitment. Even small audit projects are valuable.

Education: Participating in teaching activities and taking teaching courses demonstrate your abilities.

Non-medical activities: Hobbies, volunteering and community involvement show other transferable skills.

Traineeship: If relevant, obtain a Certificate of Readiness for Specialty Training (Crest  or Higher Specialty Training (HOST) form from a consultant to strengthen your application. Maintain a log of duties performed to support the certificate.
