Hello, fellow junior doctors! I know how hard it can be to make ends meet on a tight budget, especially in these challenging times. That's why I decided to write this blog post on how to save money as a junior doctor in the UK and provide some useful links for you to check out.

First of all, let me tell you that you are not alone. According to a recent survey by the British Medical Association, 44% of junior doctors said they were worried about their finances, and 31% said they had increased their debt or overdraft in the past year. That's a lot of stress and anxiety that can affect your mental health and well-being.

So, what can you do to save money and reduce your expenses? Here are some tips that I have found helpful in my own experience:

- Plan your meals and cook at home. Eating out or ordering takeaways can be tempting, but they can also be very expensive and unhealthy. Cooking at home can save you a lot of money and help you eat more nutritious food. You can also batch cook and freeze some meals for later, or share them with your flatmates or colleagues.

Here are some websites that offer cheap and easy recipes for busy doctors:

 [Budget Bytes](https://www.budgetbytes.com/),

[BBC Good Food](https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/budget),

[Cooking on a Bootstrap](https://cookingonabootstrap.com/).

- Use public transport or cycle to work. Driving a car can be convenient, but it can also cost you a lot of money in fuel, parking, insurance, and maintenance. Plus, it's not very eco-friendly. If you can, try to use public transport or cycle to work instead.

You can save money and get some exercise at the same time.

You can also apply for a [16-25 Railcard]
(https://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/) or

a [26-30 Railcard](https://www.26-30railcard.co.uk/) to get discounts on train fares, or join a [cycle to work scheme](https://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/) to get a tax-free bike.

- Track your spending and budget wisely. One of the best ways to save money is to know where your money is going and how much you can afford to spend.
