Introduction

General Practice (GP) is a popular career choice for many doctors in the UK. It offers a rewarding and varied career, with the opportunity to work with patients of all ages and backgrounds.

If you are interested in becoming a GP, you will need to complete GP Specialty Training (GPST). This is a three-year training program that will prepare you to practice as an independent GP.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for GPST, you must:

  • Be a registered medical practitioner (doctor) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Have completed your Foundation Programme (F1 and F2 years) or equivalent ( please see CREST form )
  • Be able to speak and understand English fluently.(positive point )

The Application Process

The application process for GPST is managed by the GP National Recruitment Office (GPNRO). The application process is online and consists of the following steps:

  1. Create an account on the Oriel recruitment portal.
  2. Complete the application form.
  3. Upload your supporting documents.
  4. Pay the application fee.

The Application Form

The application form is comprehensive and asks for information about your academic record, work experience, and personal qualities. You will also need to provide two references.

Supporting Documents

You will need to upload the following supporting documents with your application:

  • Your GMC registration certificate.
  • Your degree certificate.
  • Your Foundation Programme certificates or CREST from 
  • Any other relevant certificates or qualifications.

The MSRA

If you are eligible, you will be invited to take the GP Multi-Specialty Recruitment Assessment (MSRA). The MSRA is a computer-based assessment that tests your knowledge and skills in a variety of areas, including clinical knowledge, communication skills, and decision-making skills.

Offers and Feedback

If you are successful in the MSRA, you will be invited to attend interviews. Once you have been interviewed, you will be given an offer or a rejection.
